Hurricane Season Is Here, Are You Ready?

October 15, 2018

Did you know that the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30th? Already the east coast has received devastating blows from both Florence and Michael and there is still plenty of time for more hurricanes to form before the end of hurricane season. That is why it is so important to take the necessary precautions now to be prepared for when a storm hits.

Be sure your insurance policies are up to date and have the appropriate coverage needed. Meeting with your insurance agent and reviewing your policy will ensure that you are covered for any damages that may occur from a storm. It is important to understand what your policy does and does not cover, as well as what your responsibilities are compared to your insurance company.

Take a detailed inventory of your property and valuables. These can easily be done by using your smartphone and taking pictures and videos. Make sure you have an updated list of emergency contacts and include your insurance agent on that list so that you can get in touch with those you may need after a disaster strikes.

Prepare by having an emergency kit. This should include one gallon of drinking water per person for at least three days, a three-day supply of non-perishable food, flashlight, batteries, and weather radio. You can learn more about building your kit at
